Pronto Modulite - Configurable Indoor Chair

The Pronto Modulite Indoor wheelchair is probably the biggest Spoonie Necessity when it comes to chairs. If like me you are bed or sofa bound for part of the day and light walking is really a big issue then you may want to consider an indoor chair (see my article about indoor chairs) but if you need to be quite proactive indoors whilst also having major issues most days maintaining an upright posture - then this chair is really something I would recommend as a necessity.

I still have a Pronto Modulite though this one has gone. My current modulite chair goes up in the air. you will see I use a side-support on my chair - this is because I have considerable right hand 'slide' which is diagnosed as a chronic pain syndrome...Probably a misdiagnosis but I can't be bothered with neurological diagnosing and re-diagnosing of everything so I tend to just use the equipment I need and want!

Benefits of a Pronto Modulite:

  • Highly configurable (supports any type of add-on imaginable!)
  • Extreme comfort which can be adapted to your needs
  • Exceptional for use in an indoor space
  • Tilt in space, recline and elevating functions available for those with postural needs
  • Low height so you can be with family at meals etc and transfer easily on to the chair
If you are not sure why you would own both an indoor chair and an outdoor chair please see my article on this here. If you already know you need an indoor chair then buying a Pronto Modulite may not seem like a cheap option but it could be worth having the indoor chair on Motability and using a second-hand chair for outdoors if your condition leaves you very housebound.

Who is it for?

  • People who need serious support for their indoor activities
  • Spoonies
  • People who have difficulty sitting upright
  • People who have limited space indoors
  • People with a bed/sofa based life who would like to be more active

Anyone who seriously struggles to walk indoor or anyone who struggles with posture, keeping upright due to pain or dizziness but must keep busy. I am a mother and carer for my teenage son and also home-educate so I need to be upright but suffer from both M.E, a chronic pain disorder and severe cluster headaches. I also have occasional non-epileptic seizures when my body is pushed too hard so like many of us I need to stay seated or horizontal for longer periods then I would like to. This chair basically holds my body up on days when I should honestly crash...but just can't.

If I had to choose between an indoor chair or an outdoor chair I would probably go for an indoor chair because it's hard enough to make it from the sofa or bed to the chair anyway!

How to configure this chair

The options you can get on this chair are:

  • Tilt in space (where the whole chair tilts back)
  • Recline back (which I use to manage severe back & abdomen spasms
  • Elevating legs (great for restless legs, chronic pain or for those with swollen ankles etc)
  • side supports one or both sides
  • Headrests from mild support to complete cheek support (which I use during seizures)
  • Office arms, ergonomic arms, soft arms with soft sides, huge great sofa type arms!
  • Canvas back or fully comfort seating (I use a Passad backrest as my shoulders slip out of socket on long stays)
  • Footrests of various kinds (if you want to be more mobile or agile at home)
  • Elevating chair (goes up in the air) probably it's the best feature if you don't want to or can't adapt your kitchen as you can choose the height you work at
I have a husband who has worked constantly to configure my chairs in an attempt to help my pain and fatigue and give me a better quality of life. Not everyone can have this privilege. Because of this husband I've been able to buy cheap chairs, do them up and get rid of them if needed. Near the end of our chair journey, I discovered an amazing chair parts dealer on eBay who worked tirelessly to help me get the parts I need for my chairs when I was running out of puff and money. I feel I must give this dealer a shout out...so thanks to Kate and Endynamics for all your help this past year!

If I had the power to give awards to mobility dealers I would give an award to Kate for never giving up, putting up kindly and always being respectful when it became obvious I was a complete fruitcake!
