Wheelchair Review - Karma Falcon

We thought we were buying this chair as a 'spare chair' while my chair was being fitted into a drive-from WAV. In fact, our WAV, money and chair were being stolen and we would never see them again. I didn't keep the Falcon because it lacked my basic spec but it does have some good points about it so I'm going to review.

Wheelchair type: Class 2 wheelchair. No adaptations.

Good features: This is an incredibly robust chair and comes in a bariatric size if you need it. The chair feels absolute solid when using it and it can go over a wide variety of terrain. It has a decent kerb climber which will allow you access to most areas. The Falcon comes with flip back arms which are indefinitely valuable to many users. An excellent point about the Falcon is the ergonomic design of the armrests. If like me you struggle with stiff muscles in the forearm this design can be quite relaxing. Can carry a good load on the back. You feel safe in this chair and the motors are fairly robust for the price.

Not so good features: Is not even slightly configurable so not even slightly suitable for someone needing a level of adjustment.

If you do use the bariatric size you need to be aware of the fact that the whole chair then becomes bariatric - rather than just the seat. This can be an issue with access because when the whole chair is bariatric it will at times exceed the width of the pavement - this is especially true if you live in inner London or a small village because the pavements often receed into a space smaller than 70cm. British pavements can legally be too small to carry a disabled carriage and in some areas, there is nothing that can be legally done to adjust this issue!

Summary:

  • Suitable for occasional or part-time user
  • 'Foldable' for those who need to maximize space
  • Comes in a bariatric size
  • Comfortable armrests which flip up
  • Robust
  • Not configurable
